March 25, 2007 Featured Resorts, News and Updates No Comments

“On a tranquil palm-covered atoll surrounded by a coral lagoon, Naladhu” Maldivian for “beautiful island” “offers a mosaic of timeless moments of seclusion and serenity.”

Another amazing resort has opened in the idyllic setting of the Maldives. Naladhu was designed by Maldivian architect Mohammed Shafeeq and Thai-based interior designer Julian Coombs and the design has echoes of the Colonial era updated for the modern traveler. The name Naladhu means “pretty little island” and the resort is home to only 19 ocean houses, each named for a Maldivian plant.

Each little house has dining room and bedroom spaces with white gabled ceilings, a terrazzo bath tub with free-formed edges and an open-faced shower which allows for a view from within but remains hidden to anyone outside the house enclosure. There is also an outdoor pool and each house has an espresso machine and a stocked refrigerator and wine cellar as well as a flat screen TV and Bose audio.

EXPERIENCE

Naladhu MaldivesNaladhu is designed to be as familiar as a favorite vacation home by the sea. In its soul is the spirit of the local Maldivian culture, drawing on the rich traditions of the islands. Every Naladhu moment is an experience to treasure “an immersion in comfortable elegance that never goes out of style.

Each of Naladhu’s secluded houses incorporates timeless design, idyllic views and a feeling of home. Private houses are appointed with elegant hardwood furnishings that hearken back to a romantic, bygone era, with touches of contemporary style. With natural fluidity, the living area gives way to a spacious, cool-toned open-air bathroom.

Outside, hardwood decks and a private infinity-edge pool offer the perfect vantage point for stargazing or toasting a picture-perfect Naladhu sunset.
